A delegation of Members of Parliament from Bhutan, led by Mr. Jigme Zangpo, Speaker of the National Assembly of Bhutan and Dr. Sonam Kinga, Chairperson of the National Council of Bhutan, called on Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today.
Mr. Jigme Zangpo conveyed condolences on behalf of the government and the people of Bhutan on the passing away of former President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi welcomed the bipartisan Parliamentary delegation of Bhutan, and said that it is a testimony to the support for India-Bhutan ties across the political spectrum in Bhutan. The Prime Minister appreciated the wisdom of successive Druk Gyalpos of Bhutan in successfully guiding Bhutan to democracy. The Prime Minister added that Bhutan is an example to the world in establishment of democratic values.
Shri Narendra Modi fondly recalled his visit to Bhutan in June 2014, which was his first overseas visit as Prime Minister. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction at the progress in bilateral relations since his visit, including in the hydro-power sector.
Prime Minister reiterated that India will remain a committed partner in Bhutan's development.
