Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Kyrgyzstan on July 11th shortly before midnight. This was the fourth country during PM Modi’s Central Asia visit. The visit to Kyrgyzstan was historic and attached great significance as this was the first Prime Ministerial visit in twenty years. He was received warmly at the airport by PM Temir Sariyev of Kyrgyzstan. Soon after landing, Shri Modi was accorded a Ceremonial Welcome.

On morning of July 12th, Shri Narendra Modi began his engagements in the Kyrgyz capital by laying a wreath at the Victory Monument in Bishkek. He paid homage to the martyrs.

Later, he held extensive meetings with President Almazbek Atambayev. President Atambayev received PM Modi at Ala-Archa State Residence. Numerous areas of India-Kyrgyzsatn cooperation were talked about during their meeting. Delegation level talks were also held.

Glad to meet President Atambayev. His contribution to democracy & development is admirable.

The delegation level talks were followed by signing of key agreements and the Joint Press Statements. PM Modi noted that both India and Kyrgyzstan were united by the bonds of shared democratic values. Both the leaders, PM Modi and President Atambayev, stressed on strengthening ties in trade, investment, agriculture, defence, tourism, culture and human resource development. Shri Modi also PM Modi appreciated Kyrgyzstan’s strong support to India’s candidature for permanent membership of an expanded United Nations Security Council.

A luncheon banquet was also hosted for the PM. Speaking at the banquet, PM said, “The Kyrgyz people have been at the crossroads of the flow of ideas, trade and religion through the ages.” He also appreciated President Atambayev for his vision of democracy and development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, Mr. Asylbek Jeenbekov.

PM Narendra Modi also held discussions with PM Temir Sariyev. Both the leaders talked about ways to advance cooperation between India and Kyrgyzstan.

PM Modi also gifted medical equipment to Kyrgyzstan's Field Hospital on behalf of the Indian Government.

Both the Prime Ministers also attended a presentation at Kyrgyz-India Mountain Biomedical Research Centre. Shri Modi was delighted to initiate second phase of Kyrgyz-India Mountain Bio-Medical Research Centre. He also met a group of scientists belonging to DRDO.

Shri Modi and PM Sariyev Kyrgyzstan also launched a Tele-medicine link with India.

Unveiling a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, PM Modi expressed his part of content to have got the opportunity. He was delighted to have inaugurated Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in two countries of Central Asia. Speaking at the occasion, PM noted Mahatma Gandhi to be a Vishwa Manav. Shri Modi recalled Gandhi’s Satyagraha movement. He said that it was Mahatma Gandhi who showed the way to mitigate two major menaces of terror and climate change. Many people from Indian community and students joined in for the event. Kyrgyz PM and Mayor were also present at the occasion.

Concluding his visit, Shri Narendra Modi thanked the people of Kyrgyzstan for their warmth and hospitality. He was optimistic that in times to come, ties between both the Nations would be strengthened.
