Chief Minister Narendra Modi directed his officials to initiate the Gram Mitra Yojna in almost 18000 villages. The purpose of this scheme is to facilitate youth services in villages. A notice informing the same was given to Panchayats and village development departments.

He held a meeting with officials to discuss the working of Gram Mitra Yojna. Narotam Bhai Patel, Jaynarayan Vyas, Mangu Bhai Patel, Dilip Bhai Sanghani, Raman Bhai Vora and other administrative chiefs had participated in this meeting. In each and every village of the state there will be 5 Gram Mitra departments viz. Agriculture, Health, Education, Vikas (Development) and Human Development. Educated youth who are a part of this Yojna will strengthen the five pillars of the villages and will operate as mediators between the Government and villages to provide services.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi appealed to each and every villager to contribute in any way possible to the sectors enumerated within the Human Development Index by the year 2010 to make the Golden Jubilee of Gujarat successful.

Development initiatives taken up by the Government has brought about a qualitative change in the rural economy. Jyoti Gram Yojna, Broad band connectivity have helped Gujarat achieve radical success. Pashu Palan Yojna and Sakhi Mandal scheme has empowered women in the villages. Chiranjivi Yojna, Baal Bhog Yojna, Aagan Vaadi, Kanya Kelavani and many other programs have helped Gujarat achieve new heights of success. Narendra Modi expressed his desire to increase the pace of village development and thus has appealed every one to give priority to Gram Mitra Project.
