Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flight touched down in Tajikistan on July 12th. PM of Tajikistan, Mr. Qohir Rasulzoda was himself present at the airport to receive Shri Modi. PM Modi thanked him for the wonderful welcome.

On morning of July 13th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a Ceremonial Reception.

PM Modi held one-to-one talks with President of Tajikistan, Mr. Emomali Rahmon followed by high level delegation meeting. Both leaders discussed measures to strengthen cooperation between India and Tajikistan in areas of trade and commerce. PM Modi also complemented President Rahmon for his personal commitment and leadership in stepping up ties between both the countries. PM Narendra Modi also presented him a specially commissioned miniature painting of the tomb of the 17th century Indian poet Abdul Qadir Bedil.

Key agreements were inked between both Nations to further augment the bilateral relations.

Speaking at the Joint Press Conference, PM Narendra Modi assumed India and Tajikistan to be bound by historical, cultural and civilizational links. He noted Tajikistan to be nearest to India among all Central Asian countries. The Prime Minister said that connectivity was a vital aspect for realising the full potential of trade and commerce between both Nations. Both the countries also agreed to setting up of a North-South Transport Corridor.

India and Tajikistan also agreed upon to further intensify the cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism jointly. Both the Nations stepped up their defence and strategic ties during the Prime Minister’s visit.

A special Workshop of Agriculture Cooperation was also organised in Dushanbe. Shri Modi was delighted that for the first time such an event was organised on a large scale. Quoting the success of Green Revolution in India, he said that international partnerships could be catalysts for the development of agriculture. The Prime Minister highlighted various aspects of India-Tajikistan cooperation in this very sector.

Prime Minister Modi also paid a visit to India-Tajikistan friendship Hospital.

A banquet was hosted in honour of PM Modi by the President of Tajikistan. He hoped that in the times to come, bonds between both the nations would be further enhanced.

As he concluded his visit, Shri Modi thanked the government and people of Tajikistan for the warm hospitality during his visit. Tajikistan visit marked the completion of Shri Narendra Modi’s visit to five Central Asian Nations. Heading back home, he was optimistic that strong ties between India and Central Asia would prove o be beneficial for the entire region.
