The report details the achievements of Jyotigram Scheme launched by Shri Narendra Modi government in September 2003. Focusing on water issues the report indicates that Jyotigram is a scheme that has proved to be an optimal and innovative initiative by Gujarat that solves the dual problems of water scarcity and electricity supply.

It mentions, “In trying to solve water problems, we often look for “optimal” solutions emanating from our disciplinary or sectorial perspectives. However, holding out for the best often means we miss other opportunities for positive change as the case of Gujarat, India shows”. Besides it states that “Jyotigram Scheme focuses on providing rationally managed subsidies where needed, and pricing where possible.”

Jyotigram is an innovative scheme to make available 24x7 three phase quality power supply to all 18000 villages of the state. Further the report points out the fact that, the solution has proved to be implementable and it has brought substantial improvement in and outside the water sector.

“Jyotigram Yojana” is one of the dream projects close to his heart of Shri Narendra Modi. The scheme has won several accolades in past, earlier in 2010, Jyotigram had bagged the “Innovation for India-2010” award in the public services category. Besides, Government of India had declared in past to adopt “Jyotigram Yojana” as a flagship scheme for the 12th five year plan.
