The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today addressed a massive public meeting at Thrissur in Kerala.

The Prime Minister was greeted enthusiastically by the waiting crowd as he arrived from Kochi. Beginning his address, the Prime Minister said that he actually wanted to begin his Kerala visit with darshan at Sabarimala, but eventually told his team that the visit should be organised only at a time when it causes minimum inconvenience to pilgrims.

The Prime Minister said that the great saints of Kerala had removed untouchability from society, but political untouchability was still being practised by some in the State. He said many Party Karyakartas have been killed for political reasons. The Prime Minister paid homage to the martyred Karyakartas. He said there is a lot to learn from the Karyakartas of Kerala, who toiled selflessly for decades despite there being no hope of a BJP victory.

The Prime Minister thanked the people of Kerala for the blessings they had given the party in the recent municipal elections.

The Prime Minister said that during his recent visit to the UAE, he had met a lot of people from Kerala. He said the welfare of Indians working and living abroad was a foremost priority for his Government. He recounted how Indians trapped in adverse conditions in West Asia had been rescued, including a large number of people from Kerala.

The Prime Minister said India is a youthful nation and his Government is working towards creating job opportunities for the youth. The Make in India initiative was aimed at encouraging investment which would create jobs for the youth.

The Prime Minister said recent economic indicators were extremely encouraging. He said the youth of Kerala are innovative and talented, and the Union Government is working on ensuring that loans are available to youth for study, skill development and entrepreneurship. The Prime Minister spoke of the Digital India Initiative, and his vision for the fishermen, and for rubber plantations.
