Gujarat Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Smt. Vasuben Trivedi today apprised that more than 35 private companies have come forward to invest Rs.20,000 crore through Mission Manglam for women empowerment in the State as a gesture of their social responsibility during the 5th Global Investors Summit of Vibrant Gujarat-2011.

While speaking at the conference of state ministers in charge of Women and Child Development held here, Smt. Trivedi said that Mission Manglam has been implemented in the state and more than 2 lakh Sakhi Mandal have been formed as self help groups.

Narrating the achievement of the State Government in Women & Child Development sector, she stated that 12,636 infants of the age of 6 to 36 months have been provided with additional nutrition food by November 2010.

During the year, a target was set to cover 5.5 lakh pregnant women and lactative mother under the supplement nutrition food programme by November 2010. A total of 11,10,980 women have been benefited under the scheme securing 202% achievement.

To fight out malnutrition among adolescent girls, 156.67 % achievement has been marked by providing supplemental nutrition food to 7,05,022 girls against the target of 4.5 lakh, Gujarat Minister added.

Gujarat Women Commission has been constituted to protect the constitutional legal rights of women in the state. Commission has also installed toll free helpline No. 1800-233111 for women in need.

The State Government has recently organized a seminar of Deans/ Professors of Home Science College of the state so as to strengthen the efforts to fight out malnutrition among women, children and school-college girl students.
