Books on Cricket, Chess and Athletics in the Braille Script

Published By : Admin | October 19, 2011 | 10:11 IST

Friends,

‘Khel Mahakumbh’, the mega sports event organized last year during the Swarnim Gujarat celebrations had received a tremendous response from every nook and corner across the length and breadth of Gujarat.

During the course of the Khel Mahakumbh, several thoughts and ideas came to light. These ideas have taken the form of three books by the Government of Gujarat that I have the honour to launch today.

In the past, I have had several opportunities to launch various books in the presence of a lot of people. But today, the launch of these books has moved me and given me a completely different level of satisfaction, which can’t be described in words!

Book 1

This book has been prepared specially for our pragya chakshu (visually challenged) sisters and brothers in the braille script. It contains rules of cricket, athletics and playground information, all in Braille!

For those sportsmen who love to play cricket but are visually challenged, I believe this book will definitely be a shining ray of hope.

Book 2

A similar book has been prepared for visually challenged children who enjoy playing Chess.

Book 3

This year, we are committed to organizing a special Khel Mahakumbh for children who are differently abled. As a part of that, a special book has been launched containing comprehensive information about the rules of various games; sports equipments; training methods along with playground information.

This work will prove to be of great benefit to children who are differently abled and their teachers.

Being a part of this work on behalf of these sisters and brothers is an overwhelming and delightful experience for me.

I dedicate this work to all these children.

Yours,

Kind Words from Honorable Justice Krishna Iyer, former Judge of the Supreme Court
March 19, 2020

Dear Friends,

"Work without expecting the fruits of action"- this message of the Bhagavada Gita is strongly engrained in all of us. At times, even such deeply dedicated lives get inspired when touched by emotions. Amidst the glitter of fame and name flows incessantly a stream of sentiments but it is like river Saraswati just felt underneath. The sweet sounds of these streams find their ways and shake you to the core occasionally.

Sometime back I had been to Kerala where I paid an informal courtesy to one of India’s most renowned judges, Honorable Justice Krishna Iyer (Former Judge, Supreme Court). In a simple house, he sat in a room lit with sunrays peeping through the windows in the midst of heaps of books. It was truly an honour to meet the 90-year old Justice Iyer, whose persona epitomized politeness, kindness and a deep sense of affection! This meeting will be edged in my memory forever.

Friends, the whole of Gujarat is familiar with my passion for girl child education. Everybody has enjoyed the fruits of the Kanya Kelavani initiative across Gujarat! Details about the initiative could be found here (Kanya Kelavani).

I am writing this today to share with you an inspiring letter I received from Justice Iyer a few months ago in which he lauded our efforts for girl child education. The letter is sure to bring great joy to your heart as it did to mine. Joy and enthusiasm are best enjoyed when shared and this collective enthusiasm can further strengthen us to work better.
